Welcome to Center Square Website

Center Square, located in downtown Albany, New York, is an eclectic neighborhood where lively youth culture meets quiet old elegance.

Center Square contains some of the most significant and beautiful architecture in the city. Our homes were mainly built between 1850 and 1900, ranging from charming wood frame cottages to huge brownstone mansions.

Today, as in the past, Center Square is home to a diverse group of residents and business owners who make up a vibrant and welcoming community.

Center Square includes the area bounded by Lark Street on the west, Spring Street on the north, South Swan Street on the east and Jay Street on the south, plus the upper portion of Lancaster Street between Lark and Willett Street.

Why Join Center Square?

Your time and money support goes to excellent use by the volunteers. Already this year, the volunteers in the organization have performed the following tasks:

1) Contributed financially to the First Friday events.
2) Helped organize the Annual Spring Cleanup.
3) Helped organize a Family Event at Eba.
4) Led organization of the Annual Hidden City Home and Garden Tour to promote our neighborhood and downtown living and helped host houses.
5) Helped maintain and beautify Hudson-Jay? Park.
6) Participated in the Lark Street Area Public Safety Committee to help make the area safer.
7) Spoke on behalf of Center Square at several BZA meetings with the objective of improving neighborhood quality of life.
8) Helped organize the Lark Street Neighborhood Associations to better work together in resolving quality of life issues.
9) Distributed multiple informational flyers and newsletters door-to-door for residents (from Capital Neighbors to Neighborhood Cleanup.)
10) Help promote and advertise the Egg 30th Birthday Event, the 8th Neighborhood Works Conference, and Neighborhood Stoop Sale.
11) Updated the Center Square Website to provide more Center Square resources including everything from a more accurate Events Calendar and Albany listserv listings to Instructions on How to Throw Block Parties.
12) Began archiving old CSA newsletters from the 1960s and 1970s on the Center Square Website for future reference.
13) Setup a yahoo group to promote neighborhood discussions.
